When someone speaks of Milan, they often talk about the food, the fashion and the commerce. But did you know, Milan is located in the centre between some of Italy’s largest lakes? Well, in my most recent trip to Milan, my fiancé and I took a drive down towards Lago Maggiore, a lesser known lake south west of the famous Lake Como, in search for our perfect wedding venue.
About an hour and a half drive away from Milan city, Lake Maggiore is a lake no one speaks about, but the views are absolutely breathtaking. Located relatively close to the Swiss boarder, it is definitely one of the lakeside vacation spots you should check out. This lake stands out from all the others because it is the least touristy of all – unlike Lake Como, famous for its celebrities holiday homes. Upon arriving, you will feel the serene beauty of the Italian lakeside, together with the pop of colours from the ever blooming flowers of spring, I was literally in awe.
Even though I loved Lago Maggiore, we couldn’t find a villa that met all of our criteria, and had to unfortunately seek other alternatives. Nonetheless, we will definitely come back to a visit – maybe a weekend getaway sometime in the future?
